ps, he raves about how excited and endless the trungpa students talk about their teacher. me thinks the lady doth protest too much. they are aware that they committed to a degenerate teacher, they just haven't the courage to leave. few middle class anglos have any personal courage. they raw their confidence from their group. read about the awfull behavior of these scions of priveledge in christine chandler's book:"enthralled". so dkr wants and admires slavish obedience and people who treat their guru like a rock star. and he thinks making them move to halifax"a gloomy place" is real suffering for them. halifax is one of the most livable cities in the world. there is still some of the old military mentality that all french and gaels are beneath them(and let me tell you trungpa students are full of that racism) but we have free medical care, little crime, actual democracty--unlike the united sates and yes cold weather. people who want a soft life don't move to canada, it's people who want good life. and those wonder trungpa students have made a terrible impression on the nova scotian population.
he forgets to mention that they slag every other buddhist teacher. i was met with criticisms of my teachers at my first tsok with the dkr dharma gar group. when i objected i was told imperiously that i was conceptualizing. these are american middle class bigots. i many time encountered people who thought it was friendly to refer to nova scotia franco-gaels(the majority in the province out side of halifax and the over all majority) as "i know all about you people,you people like to kill each other", or "i know all about you people, you people are all inbred" (we have one of the lowest murder rates in the world,and the guy who thought we were inbred was jewish, i asked him if his family any tay sachs disease and he said "how did you know") but yes if you insult a franco gael to their face you risk a broken nose. you really have a hard time being more ignorant than that.
you have to swallow a lot of insults, me first, and condescending remarks to be around them. exactly the kind of behavior in chandler's book. so this is what impresses dkr.moreover their mindfullness group in halifax was teaching meditation to a native group, many of whom were survivors of sex abuse, as a secular non religious way of relaxation and improving their state of mental health. after a month or two the teacher then began teaching trungpa. a few of the group then read about trungpa and his abuses and were horrified that they were being set up by more sex abusing white people--this mindfullness group is showing a total lack of mindfulness, i raised this with dkt instructors as well.
i now think dkr is not very intelligent and outside dharma not well educated. he was raised with priveledge and wants to recreate a church of priveledge. moreover he makes no serious commitment for himself or other tibetan teachers to behave with basic decency and with ethics. in addition he won't answer hard questions from students. i asked some. i asked the assigned instructors if they had any qualms about the apparant support for trungpa and sogyal's bad behavior. the primary instructor told me i was a rain of nastiness aas dudjom rinpoche once said(i doubt he ever met dudjom r, as he also said ethics are the highest dharma) and he said i was committing a samay break attacking white peopleI a total fantasy complaint--he obviously sees any social justice supporter as attacking white people --which is the definition of being a white supremacist). the other simply said he would never talk to me again, then called me a loser. i called the first "oh noble nasty wisdom master", and the latter "oh noble shit mouth wisdom master" (ok ok i can be acerbic and sarcastic.)
so he has a deluded view of the trungpa people, trungpa and sogyal and of ethics in buddhism. he justifies it by references to abuses by tilopa or marpa, who were in a one on one personal relationship with their students naropa and milerepa. that is totally different than a large public group. this hits the core issue. true vajrayanna teachers are renunciates. they teach one on one. the church of vajrayanna being supported by dkr is just that a church. a bastions of wealth power and priveledge . the absolute opposite of remunciation. true buddhist teacher , lay or other wise are renuncites.
