To whom it may concern: I personally have direct experience with Krishna West and was present when HD Goswami spoke at rural ISKCON temple (I'll decline to say which one) last winter. What he had to say really caused quite a stir that Sunday, and some people were actually to leave for being disruptive during his talk. All he really said was that it's possible to be Krsna conscious without having to turn into a Bengali Indian, adopting all these ethnic customs, modes of dress, forms of cuisine, and etc. He also said that it's possible to become Krsna conscious without all of the cultish trappings of institutional, mainstream ISKCON. That really upset some of the devotees, that kind of talk.
To say that KW is a controversial ISKCON project is an understatement. Some of the hard-line ISKCON devotees really hate what KW stands for and see it as a deviant organization. But it's NOT a "new sect."
